1, As Sean briefly mentioned, we recently went on tour down to Brighton for the Tall Ships EP launch, (of which you should all buy a copy, I have had mine playing on repeat) which was great fun for all concerned. Sean has some pictures brewing, so I'll let him give you the full lowdown on it, but here is some coverage from Tall Ships themselves.
2, Immediately after this I went to Paris for a week, which was much fun and involved lots of drinking/walking/reading/museums/shoddy french and pointing at menus. Also a Malaysian man sexually proposition me and I managed to spend 8 hours straight in the Louvre (which became more of a challenge than enjoyable by the end of it). It was easily the biggest building I have ever been in.
The Ancient Near East section, including this man (The Code Of Hammurabi), was definitely a highlight:
It is essentially a code of laws from Ancient Babylon around 1800 BC, making it a cool four thousand years old people. History is awesome.
3, While away I read the debut novel of Steve Toltz, 'A Fraction Of The Whole', which was great. Essentially dealing with the interaction between a father and son who are both such introverted overthinkers they drive each other, and themselves, insane. Stemming from the school of writing akin to Jonathan Safran Foer in it's quirky magical realism, the book is a great read. Especially if, like me, you sometimes find yourself wandering the corridors of your own brain at 4:00am desperately looking for a way back to sleep.
The only criticism I will raise is of the writing style, it is far too similar between the father and son's narratives, making the distinction far too slight (especially as this distinction is a goal of both characters). But all in all, a really great read.
4, Upon returning I found a cheeky parcel waiting for me, chock full of publication samples. Yes we're finally getting our arses in gear and creating a book for you to melt your eyes over. We've been compiling poetry/illustration/photography submissions over the last 6/7 months and things are looking pretty creamy. Prepare yourself for the launch night, it's going to be lots of fun (plus you can by one of the beauties).
5, On monday we all went to see Tall Ships, So Many Dynamos and Tubelord at The Borderline. I was excited to say the least, getting to rock out the Tall Ships is always a pleasure and it was my first time seeing Tubelord live.
Having been a fan of Tubelord for a while it is a disgrace that I haven't seen them before now, and they more than lived up to the hype, literally blowing me out of the water and into some sort of mathrock time machine. Basically it was awesome funtimes, and if you're not already seeing them on this tour then GET TICKETS NOW. I believe we're going up to the Kingston show too if you fancy joining.
I think that's everything fun that's gone on recently, see told you I could do it.
X
