Gareth Jones

We had the privilege of gathering together some of our favourite Tall Lighthouse poets to read at our Camden event a while ago, and all of them were fantastic.

Gareth Jones stepped in at the last minute and for that we are eternally grateful! He has been published in numerous small press magazines and broadcast on radio, and has received prizes in the 2005 Academi Cardiff Poetry International and 2006 National Poetry Competitions. He's also reading with us and others at The Hold event in Greenwich this Sunday. So come all! The full line up is brilliant and we are super excited to be reading with such esteemed poets.

Here is something Gareth wrote.

Marital

The townscape coruscates with colour:
its verdant gardens, bloom-spoked parks,
the longshore drift of its cafés and bars
snaking through the neoned dark.

And any weekend of your choosing, you
could stroll the banks of the river again,
climb the tower to take in the view.

But then you could do that any weekend,
you kid yourselves. You know your years
of map-shunned flânerie are gone.

No honeymoon tourists, you pour your hearts
into jobs and chores. Blurred decades whirr on.
Year after year you till the same streets.
Sometimes you don’t even leave your homes.
