The last Wednesday of this month (28/7/10), sees the Aisle 16 boys return to Bethnal Green Working Men's Club for Homework's take on this summer's greatest hits. See clinic favourite and lovely man Joe Dunthorne (author of Submarine, a modern day Catcher in the Rye which is currently in production for a film of the book starring the incredible Paddy Considine) and Ross Sutherland, who we saw at Mercy earlier on this year. Not forgetting Observer's favourite and star of spoken word, Luke Wright. Below is the press release for what looks like a totally radtacular event:
Summer isn’t just a busy time for bands. 7-strong poetry collective Aisle16’s anarchic, boisterous, occasionally touching brand of wit has taken the festival circuit by storm. As well as playing Glastonbury’s prestigious Cabaret stage for six consecutive years, Aisle16 have racked up multiple performances at almost all of the UK’s major festivals. Recent appearances include Leeds and Reading, Latitude, Green Man, The Big Chill, Camp Bestival, Hay, Port Eliot, Shambala, and the Edinburgh Fringe.
‘fast-paced, cuttingly clever and ferociously funny... a joy to behold’ – SPOONFED
Aisle16 will be performing a full festival set of greatest hits mixed with material fresh from the Poetry Arena at Latitude – Europe’s biggest poetry event. Completing the mini-festival will be a set from acclaimed folk guitarist and erstwhile Aisle16 collaborator John Smith.
Aisle16 celebrate their 10 year anniversary this December. They have risen from humble beginnings above a Communist theme pub in Norwich to become the country’s most sought after performance poetry group.
